Back to School -- Already?!

You remember what it was like. You set out your brand new clothes the night before. You were so excited to try out your brand new backpack and lunch box. But plan as you might, you couldn't prevent the butterflies in your stomach.

Back to school time can be one of the most exciting times in your child's school year but that excitement can also cause anxiety. Some children may worry about making friends, handling tough assignments or simply fitting in to their new surroundings. Fortunately, there are great books to help deal with those fears and they can all be found at the Arcadia Public Library.

Wemberly Worried by Kevin Henkes
Little Wemberly worries about everything! Starting school only compounds her worries as she wonders if she'll have friends, if her teacher will be mean or even how the classroom might smell. No matter how much they reassure her, Wemberly still worries. Will Wemberly be able to conquer her fears and enjoy the first day of Kindergarten?
Jake Starts School by Michael Wright
Jake's excited for the first day of school, until he gets there, that is. He sees so many new people and everything was so much bigger than he was...When his parents start to leave he gives them a hug and won't let go. For the rest of the day, Jake, his mom and dad do everything together which means they can't do much. The chairs are too small for the three of them and playground toys, too teetery. Will Jake ever let go of his mom and dad long enough to enjoy all the fun things in school?

First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg; illustrated by Judy Love
Sarah Hartwell is starting the third grade...in a new school. She doesn't know anyone and she's afraid no one will like her. Can Mr. Hartwell convince Sarah to come out from under the covers?

Enjoy these and other great back to school books at the Arcadia Public Library.
