In Today's News

Today's news is full of reports about the death of Pakistan's former Prime Minister, Benezair Bhutto. For adults, explaining news like this to curious children can be very difficult and finding reliable information on the Internet can be like trying to get a drink from a fire hose instead of from a glass. Fortunately, the Library has two electronic resources that should help: Grolier Online and Statesman's Yearbook Online.

Grolier Online is designed specifically with children in mind and one of its components, Lands and Peoples, is an encyclopedia with child friendly language, maps, facts, and great illustrations about all of the countries of the world. For older children and adults, Statesman's Yearbook Online is packed with information about every country in the workd. It includes statistics, overviews of history, economics, politics, chronologies and much more. Both of these excellent resources are available to you 24/7 by going to the Library's website at and clicking on the e-Resources icon. Just have your Arcadia Public Library card handy and follow the easy instructions for using these resources.

We hope that these two resources will make it easier for adults and children to understand the complexities of today's news - and help with all those other challenging topics that crop up!
